What is titanium dioxide?
First things first, titanium dioxide is used in food (like salad dressing and chocolate) and cosmetic products, toothpastes and sunscreens as a bleaching agent or to block out UV. The FDA considers it to be safe when it doesn’t exceed 1% of a food's weight or 25% of a sunscreen's concentration.
So, what’s all the fuss then?
Well, it all began with the brand L. that produces “accessible period care made with ingredients inspired by nature." This led to the viral TikTok questioning why the brand would use the bleaching agent titanium dioxide in their tampons. Especially considering The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has mentioned titanium dioxide to be “possibly carcinogenic to humans.”
The TikTok created a bit of an uproar in the USA and now experts have mixed views on how safe titanium dioxide is in tampons. As of now, no long term study on the effects titanium dioxide has on humans has been carried out.

Is titanium dioxide in my organic tampons?
Whilst there are many brands that create organic tampons, the ingredients each brand uses within their products are not the same. At Here We Flo, we can confirm that we do not use titanium dioxide whatsoever in any of our organic products, including our tampons - and that’s the truth, period.

This means that you’ll find absolutely no titanium dioxide in them or any other toxic substances, synthetic fibres, chemical residues, dyes, pesticides, chlorine bleach or fragrances. The only thing we want your bits to be feeling is ridiculous, cloud-like softness. Naturally!
